About the event
Graceful Falling, Playful Flying. & Seeing, Witnessing, Being Seen
These four days will be composed of elements of contact improvisation and performative research.
Every day we will study and explore CI, researching underlying physical principles of contact improvisation, and we will work with performative improvisational scores. Witnessing. Seeing and being seen.
We will go outside, to the streets, to the parks - and explore performative aspects of our being in site-spesific ways.
ABOUT ELEMENTS of CONTACT WE PROPOSE TO RESEARCH
Graceful Falling & Playful Flying -
we approach Contact Improvisation with explorative curiosity. Paying attention to details; fine-tuning and listening, embodying specific qualities and tones. We will explore the dance as a continuous fall from off balance into temporary balance. The “Small dance" manifests as the constant development of falling and catching. "Rolling point" can be seen just as falling into a next fall in each other's landscapes.
Our breathing cycle can be viewed as a physical metaphor for "Rising, suspending, falling, and catching."
Falling is an endless source of fascination and curiosity. How are our bodies organizing themselves in order to fall into space?
We explore the dynamics of three-dimensional reaching and expanding, redirecting the fall into a spiral and availability to lift and fly.
Falling alone. Falling together. Falling into each others shared trajectories in space.
Falling allows us to take easy rides with others, and create effortless lifts and weight shifts through space.
We will research different movement principles in our solo bodies from the inside out - applying those discoveries into contact. The material will alternate from solos and duets into trios and group scores. We will balance out technical input and set material with explorative exercises, scores, and experiential anatomy. We wish to offer enough time and space to integrate and digest the given techniques and principles into our own experiential dance.
With this shared toolkit we will move into structured scores in the studio before we take our explorations into outdoor spaces. In this way, when we encounter new environments we have a clear frame and together hold a space where we can enjoy taking the movement research into a space of allowing to be seen and to see others. We can learn a lot about ourselves, and our dance by opening this practice to the public space.
You are welcome to Suspend, Fly and Fall with us.
Welcome to be See, and be Seen.
